Job Location : Cyberjaya, Malaysia
ROLE PURPOSE:
The Continuous Improvement Engineer’s role is to provide deep technical support in the Storage operations team via problem management. He/she will also be involved not only in Storage release management activities as well as technical aspects of Storage-based projects, but also has to proactively come up & participate with improvement activities within the scope of global environment.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Problem Management
- Provide technical solution and consultation to the GSO Run & Maintain teams
- Working with Vendor and Engineering to provide Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for high-impact incidents or repeating incidents
- Perform a Proof of Concept as well as a Pilot Test Implementation on the Solution provided
- Ensure that the Solution is created and uploaded in BestGuide
• Change Management
- Assess the impact and technical details of Changes made to the Storage systems.
- Govern the change process within GSO
• Release Management
- Maintain the latest releases/firmware according to the SGA roadmap (via Engineering)
- Perform a Proof of Concept and also a Pilot Test Implementation on the new release rollout (this is after the impact assessment from Engineering)
- Create a runbook from the pilot test outcome
- Coordinate and plan for major rollout of the release/firmware
• Project Management
- Provide technical input and perform technical execution in projects related to GSO operations
- Perform pre-requisites prior to an upgrade
- Perform healthchecks on the assets. If any break-fix, will engage GSO RNM team for assistance
- Gather all details and information to be provided to the Project Manager
- Prepare technical runbook, and review the runbook with the PM before CNL is sent out to the customer
- Perform healthchecks a day prior to the change implementation date
- Notify vendor in advance to be on standby for the confirmed change implementation
- Coordinate within GSO teams for change implementation
• DRS/BCP Activities
- Participate in all DRS technical walkthrough
- Coordinate and arrange for resources from GSO RNM for the Central DR Coordinator to contact
- Review the test plan provided by the Central DR Coordinator and provide technical consultations and input if and when necessary
- Review the DR steps with the GSO RNM team before the actual DRS implementation
- Perform pre and post tasks as well as healthchecks
• Security/Compliancy
- Perform password change on all storage related devices (SAN, NAS, BNR) on a monthly basis
- Remediate on all issues found with regards to ssh/telnet/login on switches, management servers
- Run TD script on all NetApp filers on a monthly basis, and remediate on non compliant assets
- Review and amend monthly CSL/KM report on compliancy for GSO before submitting for audit
- Controls and governs the security process within GSO (access & logins)
• Documentation/Knowledgebase
- Ensures that all GSO related documentations are reviewed and updated periodically
- Ensures that the solutions in BestGuide are reviewed and updated periodically
• Asset/Configuration Management
- Maintaining the updated asset list for GSO, reviewed periodically
- Governing the process of updating the asset list, working closely with OCD-SO team on newly deployed & decommissioned assets
QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, BEHAVIOR)
Bachelors degree in related IT field
• Certification
- NetApp Certified Data Management Administrator
- Hitachi Data Systems Certified Implementer
- Cisco Certified Network Associate
- CommVault Certified Support
- Symantec Certified Specialist
- Project Management Professional
- ITIL v3 Certified
• Required Technical Skills
- Hands-on with troubleshooting, configuration, administration, provisioning, capacity management & performance analysis on NAS, SAN and BNR related technologies
- SAN technologies = Hitachi SAN storage comprises of USP, AMS; HP SAN storage comprises of EVA, EMA, MSA;Switches which comprise of Brocade, Cisco;Other SAN storage such as EMC, IBM
- NAS technologies = NetApp FAS & V-Series, Data ONTAP, disk shelves
- BNR technologies = Tape Library comprises of Quantum, StorageTek, IBM; Backup & Restore Application such as CommVault, NetVault, NetBackup, Legato, TSM
- Experience and good in scripting & certain programming languages
- Experience in operational projects, such as Change & Release Management, Project Management
- Experience and knowledge in security and compliancy, audit documentations
• Required Behavioral Skills
- Individual must be familiar with investigative processes when technology related issues are identified
- Individual is expected to collaborate with other team members in the local teams and global teams as well as coordinate work effectively with vendors.
- Individual must be comfortable working off office hours (if and when required)
